Para-sites

No biting commentaries here, just links to a couple of interesting and informative sites:
Parasite of the Day and Parasite Ecology

The latter is nicely ecologically and analytically oriented. Since I got a “D” in parasitology as an undergrad, I should probably spend some significant time at each. But for now, darn good excuse to link to another great finger picker, Chris Smither.

“Name me someone that’s not a parasite and I’ll go out and say a prayer for him”

  1. Your quote made me remember all of the recent-ish work estimating how many parasite species there are. That’s worth a blog post of its own. I’ve seen higher estimates, but this paper (http://www.pnas.org/content/105/suppl.1/11482.full) uses 40% as the percentage of taxa that are parasitic. Parasites are everywhere! I think ecologists and parasitologists would agree that every species, if not every individual, has at least one parasite. Even parasites have (hyper)parasites!

    Thank you for the link!

Have at it
